Bangkok, Thailand: Central Rattanakosin

Explore the heart of Old Siam with Bangkok Walks

It’s sure been an interesting month here in Bangkok. First it wasn’t a coup, then it was. Who knows what’s coming next. Regardless of what the junta does, I’ve decided to go ahead and post my first walking tour of Central Rattanakosin.

This is a tour that I put together years ago when I was working with the Sathirakoses Nagapradipa Foundation. The tour was intended to draw people toward one of the oldest neighborhoods in Bangkok, a neighborhood that doesn’t see many tourists. But it truly holds an incredible part of the city’s history, and includes the iconic Giant Swing, the oldest shopping district in Bangkok, some amazing restaurants and one of the most beautiful temples in the country. Don’t miss this neighborhood!

The walk is about 2.5 kilometers and can take anywhere from 2-3 hours to complete. You can access the tour through your mobile device, but for now its only possible if you are connected to the Internet. I’m working on a system where the individual points can be accessed without a data connection but this will take a little more time, hopefully it will be available by the end of this year.

If you are interested in making your own guides, please contact me. I’m super willing to help anyone looking to make DropGuides of their own neighborhoods and attractions. If you already have a guide ready to go, send it over and I’ll add it to the map. You can reach me at [email protected] or follow me on Google+, Facebook, or Twitter.

Oh, and one more thing. There has been quite a bit of political activity in the area over the past year and its uncertain if everything will be open, or even safe, but here it is anyway:
